I'm not sure where to begin.
I recently registered on theknot.com. I soon found sister websites, like thebump.com and thenest.com. My fiance pointed me to theplunge.com, which is a website for grooms-to-be much as theknot.com is for brides.
I wanted to check it out, so I clicked around. It did not take long before I was yelling at my computer screen how ridiculous the words it contained were.
The article 'Living in sin vs. living with a wife: what's the difference' on the site begins:
"Let me guess. You and your (potential) fiancee live in separate hourses- she still lives with her parents, learning how to be a housewife-and you're both waiting for your wedding night to have sex, right?
If that's you-move on. The vast majority of this site will offend you deeply."
How true that statement is.
There is a plethora of offensive material on this site. Instead of celebrating what should be an exciting time of their lives, men are bemoaning their "bridezillas." Each article is full of degrading comments and allusions towards women and their excitement for their "big day," much like the article "How wedding porn is brainwashing your fiancee" or "Breaking down bridezilla: What kind of bride is your girlfriend?"
According to Susann, theplunge.com features how "secular men who don't have Jesus are beasts who don't deserve any happiness."
These articles play into stereotypes of what a woman should be (irritating and intolerable) and how men should react (lazy and focus on the honey[sex]moon).
The articles posted on theplunge.com make me want to delete my theknot account because I find them guilty of poisoning the minds of men everywhere by association.
